iCents.net - An ubiquitous payment system
Ecommerce, ecommerce, ecommerce; I spend a lot of time looking at it. Business models, conversion, shopping carts, interaction, calls to action, payment gateways: you name it, I've studied it. As a consultant in the web stratosphere, I ensure that I keep my eye on the ball. Cash after all, is king, and having an effective payment channel is the raison d'etre of many a website I encounter.
The thorny process of the actual system aside, it's long struck me that a payment process which is associated with the individual RATHER than the site they visit makes perfect sense. As we move more and more to digital cloud storage, the concept of oneness is moving on apace (think facebook connect, Openid etc.), and I can see this coming.
Paypal had a good stab at it, followed by Google Checkout, and for many these will suffice, but what about if you don't have either of these accounts?
Enter stage left, iCents. As a concept, I think this is inspired. Buy anything you want, from any account you have. No paypal? Use Facebook. No web 2.0 accounts? Use a credit card.
Genius. I can only hope it lives up to expectations.
